Cam Newton named NFL MVP; Ron Rivera wins coach of the year
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was named NFL MVP at Saturday night’s NFL Honors show, and Carolina’s Ron Rivera earned coach of the year honors for the second time in three seasons.
Cam was named offensive player of the year as well as MVP. The voting wasn’t even close as he got 48 of the 50 first place votes. Tom Brady & Carson Palmer each received one.
Newton threw for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns, while also adding 636 yards on the ground and 10 rushing touchdowns. He only threw 10 interceptions and compiled a quarterback rating of 99.4, both career-best marks.
Cam’s coach, Ron Rivera took home coach of the year honors, while Rams rookie Todd Gurley took home offensive rookie of the year.
Texans JJ Watt was named NFL defensive player of the year and Chiefs defensive back Marcus Peters was defensive rookie of the year.
